BLackground

Outlines, extensive as if cut from cardboard, are starkly typified. The snapshot is a look at the randomness of a mysterious moment.

Set pieces from everyday life are availed of. They merge through the art of painting, creating a new image. Doors to the semi- and sub-conscious, gateways of perception tightly kept shut by everyday life are re-opened. Depicting only the new and nothing but the new ceases to be the sole objective.

Shaped by the effects of imagery, the well-known becomes visible with pragmatic clarity. The fascination of the common in CLEAR FORM is coupled with elements of irony.

The scale of the individual components varies greatly, maintaining their substance. The joy of storytelling dominates the image.

Basic commodities float in the void, suspended in a state free of relations and interactions. Foreground and background shift closer to each other on a single image plane.

A black background serves as an immaterial line. A hole, a gap, empty distance, a NON-SPACE. It cannot be tall and it cannot be deep, it conveys nothing a mind can grasp or think.

It gives us calm and focuses our view on that which matters.

Hundertwasser about Jutta-Maria Offzarek:

“Jutta came to the Academy because she already was a master.

Master of her own world, master of her own technique:

Coloured crayon on black paper.

Who chooses such difficult means of expressing oneself?

I know none. It requires utmost discipline.

And with these self-imposed barriers, she brings down an alien, Egyptian-like world to us and spreads it out before us.

They are true barriers of beauty wherein one can live like in a kingdom.

They are dark and colourful constellations, arising and emerging from the endlessness of a deep, black void.

They are independent worlds which are self-sufficient, self-maintaining.

Whoever creates such a world is prepared forever.”
